Ever smelled a GI bleed?   Trust me!  If you have . . . you will never forget it!   Liver patients are prone to GI bleeding.  Why?  The liver plays a vital role in coagulation.  When the liver is not functioning as it should the body is unable to clot blood.     Patients with severe liver issues will bleed from, well, everywhere.   While I’m not a fan of being assigned to a liver patient (hepatic encephalopathy, cirrhosis, etc), I think the entire process of hepatic encephalopathy is so fascinating.  In fact, I’ve created several videos (available on YouTube, the podcast, and in the NURSING.com courses) covering the topic . . . it’s really cool!
