The provider says they want a renal panel . . . what labs does that include?   What is the difference between a Chem-7 and a Chem-10?   Don’t worry if you aren’t 100% sure on the answers to those questions . . . you aren’t alone AND we’ve got you covered.   Today’s cheatsheet covers 9 common lab panels, what lab values are included, and normal values.   I want to offer a bit of encouragement with this sheet.  If you feel overwhelmed thinking; “How will I ever memorize all these?”  . . .  take a deep breath!    As with everything in life, we learn through practice.    I often hear from students that they want to give up, they don’t think they will make it, they feel overwhelmed.    Listen, you didn’t learn to walk, write, ride a bike, speak, throw a ball, etc . . . on the first try.  As a child, when you fell, you got back up!  Imagine if after the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 100th time you fell while learning to walk you decided to give up . . .imagine. . .   Sadly, as we age we begin to expect perfection from ourselves, and quickly.  We begin to expect instant mastery in everything we attempt.  We become afraid to admit weakness . . . I do it too.   I want you to promise me right now that you will do two things for me:   Stop expecting instant perfection from yourself Keep going, keep improving, daily   Our goal at NURSING.com is to give you the confidence and the tools you need to succeed on the in nursing school and in life.
