This picture is of me and my son the day I graduated nursing school . . . ⠀ ⠀ Just two letters, RN, kept me going during the dark times of nursing school.⠀ ⠀ I knew nursing school would be hard . . . but I had no idea. ⠀ ⠀ I experienced some of my darkest times while going through nursing school.⠀ ⠀ During those times, the letters “RN” kept me going.⠀ ⠀ To me they mean so much more the “Registered Nurse”, they mean caregiver, life saver, provider, confidant . . .⠀ ⠀ The fact that I worked so hard for the privilege of putting those two letters after my name make them that much more meaningful.⠀ ⠀ To attend nursing school, my wife and I moved 1,000 miles away from family, my grandfather died during my first semester, my first son was born with a congenital defect that required 3 surgeries and 5 hospital stays, I got into $65,000 of student loan debts, lived on medicaid, food stamps, and WIC, withdrew and lived with my parents for a year, had a second child, had to leave my wife and two kids for 1.5 months . . . you know the story . . .⠀ ⠀ We each have our own story of the sacrifices we make for those two letters.⠀ ⠀ I want you to know that it IS worth it.⠀ ⠀ I will never forget the mother of a young patient of mine who passed away. After her son passed and she was leaving the hospital, she gave me a bear hug then looked up at me and said:⠀ ⠀ “I will always remember you. Thank you for taking care of my son. I will always remember you.”⠀ ⠀ I know that she wasn’t talking to ME, but to all nurses.⠀ ⠀ To her, in that moment, I represented every nurse.⠀ ⠀ Someday, you will represent every nurse too.⠀ ⠀ The journey can be hard, but stay strong and let those two letters keep you going.⠀ ⠀ At NRSNG, we want to help you as you navigate your nursing journey. We're all in this together . . . 😊

nursing.com team about photo

Y'all . . . I want to be a little "raw" with you.

Over the last couple of weeks, nurses have been propelled into the public limelight and elevated to hero status. It is humbling to see the world's response to the profession that you and I have always known was special.

Photos of nurses wearing N95 masks have gone viral . . .

But what the public doesn't see is the emotional strain that both nurses, nurse educators, and nursing students are facing.

Overnight, future nurses (and their professors) were thrown into career limbo, unsure what the future would bring.

Practicing nurses were facing terrifying crowding in hospitals while striving to care for incredibly sick individuals and the fear that they might infect themselves or their families.

With a courage, that is only found in true hero's, you woke up and continued studying, you put on your scrubs and went to work.

That is who we are - as nurses.

The ability to put others before self, to care at a depth humanly impossible, and to do it all without asking for fame.

Current and future nurses . . .

The words "Thank You" are vastly inadequate at a time like this, but, thank you.

We love you. We need you. We are all in this together.

I wish so deeply that there was more that we could do to help you. Any attempt to aid feels weak, at best - but we commit to do what we can.

Happy Nursing!
