Where would the world be without insulin?   While working in the hospital you will be giving insulin . . . a lot!   When stressed and during illness the blood sugars will elevate as a result of increased cortisol secretion and alterations in general metabolic processes.   Due to this many patients will be on insulin or at least on blood sugar checks.  For your DKA patient you will be checking BS as frequently as every few minutes.   Today’s cheatsheet is designed to help you with some of the most critical information regarding insulin.  While it’s not common to mix insulins anymore (due to pens) it is still something that you will be tested on and should be familiar with.
